Our Vision for PSHE

Through our curriculum, our school environment, our mission statement and values, we strive to promote pupils’ emotional, spiritual and physical well-being as well as help them to form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships, based on respect for themselves and for others, at home and in the community. Our aim is to prepare each child to be a resilient, productive and safe member of our ever-changing world.

Through our curriculum we want our pupils to:

  • Know and understand what constitutes a healthy lifestyle
  • Develop a growing awareness of a broad range of safety issues
  • Know how to be safe online
  • Know what to do and who to speak to if they feel unsafe
  • Be aware of their own mental health and how to promote and manage it
  • Grow independence, and to know what it means to be an active, responsible member of our school community and beyond
  • Develop their personalities and behaviour through the specific focus on important values that enable them to reflect, learn and behave with integrity
  • Know what a healthy relationship looks like and how to manage them
  • Know how to be safe and make good decisions and choices living in the wider world

To support our aims, the school is a member of the PSHE Association.  We follow a scheme of work, which offers a comprehensive, carefully thought-through approach. This brings consistency and progression to our children’s learning in this vital curriculum area.  Our approach also supports the “Personal Development” and “Behaviour and Attitude” aspects required under the Ofsted Inspection Framework, as well as significantly contributing to the school’s Safeguarding and Equality Duties, the Government’s British Values agenda and the SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural) development opportunities provided for our children.
