Relationship between governor and school: two children present

I have recently begun my second term as a school governor at St. Mary’s and very much enjoy being part of such a vibrant and happy community. I have two children at the school and am honored to be able to support them and their peers in ensuring the school delivers the excellent education that all children deserve. I teach Maths at Clapton Girls’ Academy so have a good understanding of the journey through education that we are preparing our children for. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in marketing, so have experience of financial planning and management and extensive recruitment experience, which have proved to be useful skills in my role as governor.

Margaret Glover has worked as a visiting lecturer in higher education for the past 15 years and values the opportunity to work with staff at St Mary’s to ensure that children are encouraged to be curious and engaged life-long learners. When her own daughters were in primary and early secondary school, Margaret led the Sunday School at St Mary’s Church. One of the joys of serving as a governor is that she has the opportunity to lead collective worship assemblies on a regular basis and observe the growth and development of the whole school community. Margaret was the previous chair of governors and has been re-appointed as a foundation governor through the LDBS for a second four-year term.

I am locally born and like to get involved with local community projects. I am the Treasurer of both St Michael and All Angels Church and the N16 Boiler House, as well as serving as a Managing Committee Member of Everbrook Housing Co-operative; all of which are based in Stoke Newington. I believe that as a parent governor I will be able to bring views of other parents to the Board, as well as provide a parent’s perspective to governing issues that the school may face from time to time. I am also happy to be a representative of St Mary’s in my capacity as a Governor.

Relationship between governor and school: Two children present

I am a Foundation Governor, appointed by the Parochial Church Council at St Mary’s.  By profession, I am a solicitor specialising in employment and data privacy law, giving me skills in analysis and advocacy which are useful as a school governor.   My two eldest daughters attend St Mary’s, meaning I have an added interest in the success of the school and the quality of the education provided to all pupils!  As a regular worshiper at St Mary’s, I am mindful of the school’s ethos in the approach I take to my role as governor.
